Summer…
Avatar for {name}

Boy I ♥ Firefox.  If it weren’t for FF, I’d have not been able to log in.  You see, it remembers my passwords for me.  lol

Anyway…

Summer memories.  I have so many.  And I’ve really wanted to blog about some of them for some time, and I guess now I will have to do this.  But let’s just say that I used to have a really good time at my - okay listen closely - ex-step-uncle’s house on the Ozarks lake.  Yes, you see, he was related somehow by my Grandpa’s second marriage.  But now they’re divorced, so that makes him an ex.  Okay, more than you wanted to know.

Anyway, this house lives on in my memories, it was such a neat house.  So big and so many places to hide and the lake right out back.  And, of course, my cousin was alive then - we used to have so much fun.  There were times we got scared together, too, thanks to her older sister.

I loved going out on the boat… even if I was forced to wear a life jacket…

When I Was Only 5
Avatar for {name}

I remember my first crush.  When I was 5, the little girl two house down would come over.  I don’t remember her name but I remember she liked me, and that intimidated the heck out of me.  I remember walking by her house one day.  She had left her sandals out on the sidewalk.  I picked up the sandals took them to the end of the court on which we lived.  In the court one of our neighbors owned a stock-car that he kept on a trailer by the curb.  I took the sandals and threw them into the open window of the car.  I don’t know why. Then I ran home.

Later that day I heard her mother yelling at her.  She was yelling about the missing shoes.  To this day I wish I had not done that.

FFAF - Rigatoni
Avatar for {name}
And I'm hungry! I blame Jenny. Her recipe and then telling me she was going to bake bread. GRRRR. Okay. Soooo . . here's mine.
Rigatoni for those who are either time-impaired or cooking impaired. XD
(Those of you true Italians, please stop looking. You'll have a fit. (; )

Ingredients
1 1lb box rigatoni noodles - San Giorgio is good for this
1 26oz jar of your favorite spaghetti sauce.
- if you like sauce, go with a larger jar
2 8 oz packages (or 1 16 oz package) of shredded mozzerella cheese

Needed Implements
1 pot for cooking the pasta
1 microwave safe pot that can hold all the pasta and the sauce and cheese

Steps
  1. Cook the rigatoni noodles as instructed on the box or to taste
  2. Unless your microwave safe pot is non-stick, I'd use pam or something similar on all of it to ease clean up
  3. Open the sauce jar and spoon a little of the sauce on the bottom of the pot. About a serving spoon full, maybe two.
  4. Place about HALF of the rigatoni noodles into the pot.
  5. Pour about HALF of the sauce onto the noodles. Stir until WELL mixed. Then pat the noodles until the top is flat.
  6. Sprinkle 8 oz of mozzerella onto the top of noodles and sauce. (One of your 8 oz packages or half of your 16 oz package.)
  7. Repeat. Noodles, Sauce, Cheese. When stirring the noodles and sauce the second time, be careful since you don't want to mix the cheese from the first layer into the noodle and sauce of the second layer.
  8. You now have TWO layers of noodles and Sauce, then cheese. Cover the pot.
  9. Throw into your microwave oven on high for 15 - 20 minutes. Timing will vary based on pot size, microwaves, and other things.
  10. When the cheese is melted on top, even turning brown, it is most likely done. You want the cheese in the middle to melt.

TADA. Eat. It's yummy. And prep time isn't that long either. (=

Enjoy! (=

Summer Feeling
Avatar for {name}

Happy FFAF! I’m sure I’ve already shared recipes with you luka, so this month I’ll dig into the depths of my mind and dredge up memories. And, to be perfectly honest I guess I just love summer holidays, that feeling when you get off a plane in a foreign place, and you step out of the door and the heat hits you, and you take a deep breath and think wow. It’s like, face it dorothy, this ain’t Kansas no more, not that I’ve been to Kansas, but it’s just that feeling, you know you’re on holiday :) That’s summer for me, I love being somewhere that’s not familiar, that’s not English, that feels different, that’s how I remember summer :)

I just Suddenly Lost All Inspiration
Avatar for {name}

I thought I had something pretty profound and enlightening to say and all of a sudden, my mind went blank...just like that...poof - all gone. It may have been along the lines of - never trust the spell checker, but I’m not completely sure.

Oh well, moving right along - Happy FFAF to everyone - and taking the cue from Luka I shall choose one of her suggested topics.

Since I have far too many ‘I’m sorries’ I wish I had said, that one is out for now…
And all of my best memories are from my childhood when I lived in NV :D…

Okay, we’ll go with the recipe - I’ve always been told I make *awesome* double chocolate chip Kahlua brownies, but that’s not the recipe I’ll be sharing with you today…

Quick and Easy (I don’t actually feel like cooking) Grilled Cheese Sammich
What you’ll need:
2 slices of bread
1 slice of cheese
Toaster oven

Put cheese in between slices of bread, place in toaster oven, bake at 375 degrees for 5 minutes...done.

Enjoy :D

Signed: Teli aka the insane one - and now that I’ve finally got FFAF open, feel free to head over to my blog and leave your footprints

Indian Acres
Avatar for {name}

In the summer when I was younger, my brother and I would go with my grandparents to their place near the Chesapeak Bay, Indian Acres.

There wasn’t anything really “indian-like” about it. It was basically a trailer park that most people used as a summer recreation place. Still, my grandfather - akaGramps - owned a 20’ Chaparrel that he called “The O & P” and we would take it out into the bay to look around or to fish.  We often wnet crabbing and brought back enough crabs to have a whole dinner.

I remember the first time I went crabbing. It never really occurred to me why we were catching the crabs. I was very reluctant to cook and eat them after we brought them all back.

Our second boat was a rowboat fitted with a motor. I recall going out in the bay with it many times. On one particular occasion we went out pretty far into the bay. Oil tankers were not too far away, and boy are they big close up, especially in the water where there’s not much else around to compare the size to.

Anyway, we were out pretty far and the storm clouds started to roll in. The rain started pouring and the water got really rough. The waves were taller than our boat was long. We flew up the crest of one wave, launched over the next and landed in the trough beyond it. The boat was thrashed horribly, and we weren’t making much headway since the engine was often unable to propel us.

We eventually made it to a close shore, having taken on surprisingly only a little water.  The bay calmed down and we returned to our port unscathed but thankful to be home.

I miss the bay these days, since Gramps died and we sold the place and The O & P. I still have our rowboat in my garage, and someday I’ll take my kids out in the bay to catch some crabs and avoid the really big waves.
