Today, besides being my mothers birthday, is my a very special day.  Today marks the 5th Anniversary of my blog. Five years ago today, while sitting in my little single room in the newly renovated South complex, I set up a pitas journal and added it to my traditional static webpage.  (I’d started THAT webpage about 3 years before after taking a short HTML course offered by the Library.) I’d grown tired of only making cosmetic changes to the page (which I did on a nearly daily basis) and wanted to do more of a text based update. For a long time the PITAS journal was just a small section within the larger part of my static site. It was a buried link and not that many people read it. I didn’t write every single day - in fact after I graduated I wrote only every couple of weeks. In my defense, there was a period there where I was working 80 hours a week. I had Zero Social Life and I couldn’t blog about work, so there was really nothing to tell.  Once I got married and moved to Florida I started to blog more. I was still doing the whole static site thing.  On August 2nd 2002 I switched from Pitas to Blog and changed the focus of my site to the blog.  I still had the static website, but it was now buried as a link in my sidebar.  I made the decision then to make the Blog , and I’m not even sure if that term was used back then, the focus of my site. I knew that I wanted traffic, I wanted response, I wanted interactivity and I wasn’t going to get THAT from a staticwebpage. I wasn’t really a fan of Blog , and in November/December of 2002 I made the switch to Movable Type. It was free back then, but I did pay to have the SixApart people install it for me. (Since I had NO idea what I was doing.) Using MT I started to write every day, and that’s when the journal really became a “blog.” I usually wrote every day, and sometimes twice a day. I participated in lots of MeMe’s and also in the support forums for MT. I installed scripts, and plugins and various things to make my blog just that more fun!  Heck, I even learned how to install MT on my own. In May of 2004 I made the switch to Expression Engine. I got a copy for free originally when MT went from full version free to partial version free. It took me a while to get the hang of using EE. I still don’t understand all the technical stuff, and I doubt that I ever will really.  But I am can make EE, pretty much, do what I want and that’s cool!

Some people say that they blog for themselves. Some people say they blog for their audience. I think I do a little bit of both. It really is nice to have a record of my history - that’s why I put the “on this day in history” code in the side bar. It’s a neat reminder of what I did a year ago, 2 years ago and what have you. I would venture to guess that most of you don’t read those posts, which is totally cool - most of them suck. :) I still crave the interactivity of a blog. I still crave the comments, the feedback. I love doing the FFAF on the last Friday of the month, and doing the trivia questions have been a blast too. I hope that you internets like them too; it seems like people DO since I always get participation on those!

5 year ago I wasn’t married, I had no pets and I live by myself in a small dorm room in Missouri. I didn’t know what I was going to do after graduating; I hadn’t set a wedding date and didn’t have a car. I was 22 years old. I was a baby it seems like. (Not that I think I’m all grown up now or anything. ) I am a little more private these days, online and off actually. I am who I am, and what you see, is usually what you get. I might not tell you the intimate details of my offline life, but you pretty much know who I am. The best part - is that you like that person. (I assume.) You at least like her enough to come and read what I’ve written every day. (Even if I DO change tense mid sentence. ) This blog gives me a connection to people I’d otherwise not have met and if I haven’t said it to you, THANK YOU! Thank you for being a part of my internets. Thank you for letting ME be a part of YOUR internets.

It seems there is something very very wrong with the monitor on our Desktop. It’s all squished in. It’s horrible. We don’t know if its the video card or the monitor yet, hopefully hubby will be able to figure that out soon. It blows. I was trying to get my case notes done last night; I was trying on the laptop but it kept crashing on me. I am not sure if husband has fixed that yet so this morning I did the case notes on thefarked desktop. Man was THAT hard to read. I had to blow to text up to 150% to be able to see it. I got em done though. *does happy dance*I’m not sure what the deal with the laptop is either. :( Hubby’s not gonna like it if I commandeer his laptop tonight for BLEX meeting, but he’s gonna have to just deal with it if the desktop is acting funny still. Grr . I almost hope it just the monitor. Then I can get a new monitor like we were gonna do anyway. I want a flat screen. The monitor we have now we got in,uhm, the fall of 01 I think. Yea . That’s right. It’s a huge monitor and we loves it, but it’s been giving us trouble for a while now. I think it’s officially broken. (Hubby did mention that it could be the video card, so we’ve got to check that too I think.)

I hardly even watch SNL anymore, especially now that Jimmy Fallon isn’t on the show. This morning while tooling around on the internets I found this link. It’s a skit with Jimmy Fallon, Shawn Hayes, Will Ferrel and Horatio Sanz. They start cracking themselves seconds into their scenes and by they end are totally losing it. It’s funny shit I tell ya. I think its wicked funny when comedians break the 4th wall, and laugh at their own jokes. (That’s one reason I don’t like the Colbert Report so much - Stephen Colbert rarely makes himself laugh. Now, Jon Stewart on the Daily Show. I LOVE that one!) For that reason this clip was totally making me giggle like a manic school girl today. Funny shit I tell ya! Check it out.

I went to see Meli (Dizzy Scorpio) in the hospital today. She’s doing fine. Apparently she’d had a reaction to thepneumonia vaccination she got, uhm , a week ago? She’s pretty sure that she’ll be sent home tomorrow. Hospital food always sucks so I did a girl good and got her some food from Denny’s.T’was nice.  I’m sure she’ll give you any specifis if you are interested when she’s out.  :) But she’s doing good! :)
