let the begging commence

So, the signups for the Blogathon have opened and I’m looking for a few good sponsors! As of yet, I’ve got one sponsor and it’s me! ;-) I am going to be blog for the National Down Syndrome Foundation. I have a cousin, Matthew, with Downs and a blog-friend recently adopted two girls with Downs.  I felt like this was the year for this charity.

The National Down Syndrome Society envisions a world in which all people with Down syndrome have the opportunity to realize their life aspirations. NDSS is committed to being the national leader in enhancing the quality of life, and realizing the potential of all people with Down syndrome.

So, you want to sponsor me right? My goal is $250 and the event is 25 days and 13 hours away, as of this post.  If you’ve never heard of the blogathon, lemme tell you a bit about that too. It’s charity event. Every blogger blogs every 30 min for 24 hours for their specific charity. All monies will be sent directly the given charity after the event is over. No money comes to me, or the Blogathon site. It’s a fun way to raise money for charities.

This is my 4th Blogathon.  In 03 I raised money for the Ploughshares Foundation, in 04 I blogged for mfAR - The American Foundation for AIDS Research {link} and in 2005 I blogged for Amnesty International. {link}

So, you’re just itching to sponsor me now, aren’t cha?  Sponsor Me!  Oh, and if you have a blog, and you want to participate, signups are still open; the more the merrier.  Comments are open for questions or concerns! ;-)

a tribute on 911
image
I’ve been meaning to blog about this for a while now.  I just never could find the right words. I felt it was time to write about it, but still couldnt find the right words. SO, I’m just copying his. (The creator of the site D Challener Roe.

2,996 is a tribute to the victims of 9/11.

On September 11, 2006, 2,996 volunteer bloggers will join together for a tribute to the victims of 9/11. Each person will pay tribute to a single victim.

We will honor them by remembering their lives, and not by remembering their murderers.

If you would like to help out, either by pledging to post a tribute on your own blog, or by offering your services to promote this cause, just leave a comment here and I’ll email you the name of a victim.

Then, on 9/11/2006, you will post a tribute to that victim on your blog.

But, and this is critical, the tributes should celebrate the lives of these people–kind of like a wake. Over the last 5 years we’ve heard the names of the killers, and all about the victim’s deaths. This is a chance to learn about and celebrate those who died. Forget the murderers, they don’t deserve to be remembered. But some people who died that day deserve to be remembered-2,996 people.

I’ve signed up and already recieved my name. Maybe you want to as well. http://www.dcroe.com/2996/

family ties, not the tv show

So, how far back can you track your family? I can, pretty far actually.  (A couple years back one of my great aunt/mother/sister something ;-) did a big genealogy. Tonight my husband and I got the book out and went though it. It was a lot of fun, actually.) Turns out I could be a daughter of the revolution. I have an ancestor who served in the revolutionary war. He was a private.  The first of my family is tracked back to England in the 1700’s.  We came to the US in 1703 and another ancestor owned 400 acres in the Virgina Colony.  I have an ancestor was a moonshiner, just like uncle Jesse. :-) Pretty neat actually.  It made history fun.
