Wandering WebKittyn
Avatar for {name}
Good evening, bloggers!

I am not nearly as witty or interesting as Luka, why she invited me to come guest post is beyond me but she's a kind soul!

I'm WebKittyn and I warble. I'm blogging for the Humane Society of New York so come on by and say hello if you want.

Hrm. Trivia. Ok, I have one. Where did Steve Tyler get the inspiration for the song title "Walk This Way?"

So what are all you happy blogging types up to, how are you keeping yourselves awake and have we started getting wonky yet? I think I'm halfway to wonky.

Alright. I'm going to post this now and go eat a frozen devil dog. Come say hello and thank you to Luka for letting me come play in her world!

Living With Down Syndrome
Avatar for {name}
Wow, I feel like I'm posting on a celebrity blog or something! Luka rocks and here I am posting on her web space! How cool am I???

Since Luka is blogging for The National Down Syndrome Society, Luka has invited me here to give ya'll a glimpse into the life of a family who has a child (or in this case, children) with Down syndrome.

In 2005, my husband and I were made aware of a little girl in the foster care system who was available for adoption. She had bright red hair and Down syndrome. My husband, my son and I fell in love with this little toddler upon first sight. We went through the appropriate channels and were notified within a few months that the little girl was to become our own.

Early this year, we finalized the adoption of our little DramaChild.

Shortly after hearing we would become the parents of DramaChild, we found out we were also selected as the adoptive parents to a newborn little girl who was also born with Down syndrome. LittleBit came home from the hospital mere weeks before DramaChild was permanently placed in our home. She was born at just over three pounds and entered our arms and our hearts four weeks after her birth. We have an open relationship with her birth parents, who we consider part of our extended family.

Within weeks, our family was completed with the addition of these wonderful little girls. Word cannot describe how much these two little ones have brought into our family. There are challenges we face as a result of being their parents (discrimination, cruel comments, developmental delays, etc.) but they are worth all the benefits we receive as well.

Our girls may be slower to do things, but they do them with a joy and excitement second to none. Even at their young ages, these kids have an appreciation for life that has taught my husband and I a great deal. Everyone who comes in contact with them falls in love with them instantly. They have a pull that draws people to them.

Of course, no one loves and protects them more than their big brother! His patience, love and appreciation for his sisters has gone beyond all our expectations. Most kids would feel slighted or pushed aside by the addition of two siblings, especially two with special needs, but he wouldn't have it any other way! They have brought just as much light into his life as they have to the lives of us as their parents.

Having a child, or children, with Down syndrome isn't something to be pitied. It isn't something bad or unfortunate. All three of our children are blessings beyond description. We are thankful every day to have all three of them in our lives. Our girls may come with a little extra chromosome, but that chromosome makes them who they are. And we happen to love who they are!!

Many thanks to Luka for allowing me to share my great kids with ya'll! Happy Blogathon-ing!!
