because Trivia is fun, and this time it’s about Radio

Yay!  Please answer if you know the answers, but we like to share here at Incogblogo.  Three is usually the max.  Also, while I can’t TELL that you’ve cheated - you’ll totally know that you have and you will just feel bad. Feeling bad isn’t what Trivia is about either! :-) Have fun! :-)

  1. What were the call letters of the first commercial radio station? Pittsburgh’s KDKA Shawn got this one right! :-)
  2. Who invented the FM band?
  3. The term ‘broadcasting’ comes from which industry?
  4. ‘FM’ stands for? Frequency Modulation.  Yorkshire Soul got this one right! :-)
  5. What type of radiation are radio waves considered to be? Electromagnetic radiation Shawn got this right!
  6. What topic was discussed on the first commercial radio broadcast?
  7. David Sarnoff was the head of which company? RCA Yorkshire Soul got this one right! :-)
  8. The first licenced commercial radio station debuted in 1920 in this city? Pittsburgh Shawn got this one right! :-)
  9. Where in the US can you find most radio stations with the call letters starting with ‘W’? East of the Mississippi River. Shawn got this one right! :-)
  10. William Gillette was the first actor to portray this classic character on radio:
  11. Who began his newscasts with the famous, ‘Good evening Mr. and Mrs. North and South America and all ships at sea, let’s go to press...’?
  12. ‘Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men’? The Shadow Knows! Miss M Got this one!
  13. In January, 1933, Detroit radio station WXYZ debuted this long running radio (and later TV and movie) series:

P.s I will do Trivia on Tuesday next week! Any suggestions for themes?

Oh, also - yes I am doing a Show this week. It’s Music from Movies! :-) I’ve got one block from a a musical made of a movie (Finding Nemo) but all the rest are movies.  I’m not gonna tell you movies, but I’ll give you stars.  Kirsten Dunst, Justin Timberlake, Lindsay Lohan, Ashton Kutcher, Jonathan Jackson, Helen Hunt, William H Macy, Kevin Smith, Kevin Smith, Jason Lee, Jennifer Garner, Michael McKean, Christopher Guest, Jason Schwartzman and Rose Byrne. this morning I downloaded showtunes and that show is WEEKS away
Avatar for {name}

Although my blog may look abandoned and pretty pathetic, I did not die or otherwise remove myself from the world. (Don’t ask me I don’t know what I mean either. I’ve had three hours sleep.) I’ve spent a great deal of time working on other projects this week.  The big one being The Official Saturday Morning Show Blog. Not only have I gotten a sort of slap dashy layout up - but I’ve actually gotten some pretty damn useful things up. Now that I’ve got my “business cards” I certainly need to spruce up the URL I’ve shared on them. Which is, for the record, http://www.thesaturdaymorningshow.net/.  The two big pages that I’ve gotten set up - besides the “about” page which I copied from the main ThatStation Site - are the Show Archives and the ”how to listen live” tutorial.  On the Show Archives page I put a table with all the shows, their themes, their length, a right click save link for the download and a Tiny URL to the Thread I wrote about the show on the ThatStationForums.  My forum is just called the Luka Forum.  The ”how to listen live” tutorial is a little sparse a the moment, but it should help explain how to get to the show live with iTunes. I’m still working on that section. :-) Other than providing a convenient place for all the downloads and show information, I don’t really have any big plans for that blog.  Just moving nearly all SHOW related stuff over there, and making a convenient hub for which people can get information about or download the show.  That’s pretty straight forward, no?  Oh, maybe some other bigger plans when I’ve got room in my brain for them. We’ll see. Go, check it out, lemme know what you think! :-)

P.S the theme for This Week’s Show is All Request with a Twist.  I’ll be playing songs with a positive or negative memory associated for the requester. Does that make sense? ;-) I hope it’ll all make perfect sense on Saturday. Be there in the chatroom, or be a rectangle! 9am Eastern

One More Minute
Avatar for {name}

Please Notice the new theme! :-) It’s a Snowperson - and I think it’s all wintery and holiday-e! ;-) Woot Woot!

So. The theme Saturday?! Totally like the best one ever! :-) It’s a whole show devoted to Weird Al!  The man is a genius! There are two reasons to show up to my show Saturday. 1) You already Know and Love Weird Al!  2) You WANNA get to know and LOVE the Weird AL! Be there or be a rectangle!  I’m sharing one of my most favorite weird Al songs.  I remember walking around wearing headphones and listening to my generic Walkman and just singing my wee heart to this one. I’m not QUITE sure why - but that’s the beauty of Weird Al. :-) The song is - One More Minute - off the Weird Al’s Yankovic’s Greatest Hits album!

See you in the Chartroom!

the winner was music from TV and movies
So that’s what I will be playing this Saturday! I’m really looking forward to it! As usual I put a “Saturday Morning*” spin on the play list!  I’ve got some oldies and goodies in there. I’ve got some hipster tracks you might not have noticed was on the great movie you saw. See, I sort of let the play list together itself.  Ok - yes Luka, make them think you’re crazy. Good plan. No. See, I go in and pick a whole bunch of tracks. I bought some of the from iTunes, downloaded some of the these from other sources, collected some of them from friends, and ripped some from my CD collection.  Then I put all those tracks - this time it was about 2 and 1/2 hours o music - into on big play list on iTunes. Then, because of the way I like to set up my winamp, I break the songs down into sets and put them in individual play lists.  I try to fit them together as organically as possible; in a simple way like - they’re all in movies, or all from TV, or they just plain sound good together.  I’m really going a little over board here, and this entry has sort of gotten away from me.  But, really, I am excited about this show! I’ve had picking out the tracks, and putting them in order in which you’ll hear them!  I hope that you’ll like them as well, and that you’ll tune in at 9am EST Saturday Morning to hear me do the show live! :-) You can come into the chat room and bug me too! It’s great fun! There will be TWO contests this week!  Yes...not just one contest to try and bribe you into listening, but TWO! :-) I’ll tell you about one of them - it’s really super easy.  Just listen to the show, write down 5 movies in which I play dialog clips of, tell me if I played a song from that movie in the show, email that to me, and you win**! ;-) A prize as yet to be determined.  Yay! Won’t that be fun? Isn’t that easy?! For the second contests - gotta listen to the show! :-) All contests will run until Friday the 24th at 11:59pm EST.  So - this week I’m sharing a really short track. To a TV show that I dearly loved as a kid.  I sort of SAW myself as a Rainbow Brite. I’m weird, what can I say! :-) See you Saturday! :-)

*This new phrase that I’m trying out. How does it work for you?

**Offer valid for the first five players. I’m not made of money yo!

the Elizabeth phase
My theme for Saturday’s show has changed a little bit.  I was going to do a whole show of songs with my first name. (Which isn’t Luka by the way.) But my husband asked me not to - something about wanting to protect my identity.  At first I wasn’t going to listen to him, but I guess I changed my mind. :-) Instead of doing a whole show about my real first name I am going to do a whole show of songs with women’s names in the title.  I’ve done them in alphabetical order, which I think is an easy way to organize the names.  My real name IS in there, but I’m not going to announce it or anything.  I had to fudge a little bit on some of the letters. I mean, come on, do you know of a single Girls name Song that starts with a Q, or Z or X? I didn’t think so :-) I’ve also tried to find songs that you probably haven’t heard before - most of them I hadn’t heard before.  The song I share today is called Elizabeth and it’s by a band called Thunderpussy Forever. Two big reasons I picked his tune.  1 - when I was younger I went through a “I want to be called Elizabeth” phase, and 2 - the band is called Thunderpussy Forever!  I mean, come on, who can resist a name like that!? I certainly can’t! This track does sound a little distorted, but it came to me that way - straight off of iTunes.  So don’t forget to tune in Satruday at 9am EST on ThatStationRadioLive to listen, and be sure to come into the ChatRoom to talk with me, and hopefully loads of other people, during the show! :-)

i guess I am calling it “Music to Vote to”
So, the midterm elections are less than a week away now, and I figured this would be a good time to play some Political Music. Currently it’s mostly Anti Bush stuff, with some comedy clips and other type songs thrown in.  I hope to talk about so actual political topics - IE important races around the country. I guess I hope to encourage people to vote. No Matter WHO ya vote for - Really! Of course I want people to Vote the Bums out - all of them, and then maybe we can stop this Blood War and try and fix THIS country too.  The song I’ve shared today is a short one - and it’ll prolly be on the playlist Saturday, I couldn’t find one to leave out yet! :-) The song is called Bad President and it’s by a dude called Yikes McGee.  I got it from a website called Topple Bush.com - I actually got a LOT of music from them actually.  I Love free music, don’t you?!  I found em just doing a Blingo Search. I hope you like what I’ve shared with you today, and maybe it will entice you to tune in on Saturday.  I’m live at 9am EST on ThatStationRadioLive and I will be in the chat room!  Maybe you wanna come in and say HI, I totally agree! Maybe you wanna come in and say HI, you’re wrong wrong wrong! Whatever you wanna say, come in and say HI never the less!

the very first theme thursday
IF you’ve looked at a calendar lately you know that next Tuesday is Halloween! So this Saturday (on the Saturday Morning Show) I’m going to do a whole show of Halloween music.  Halloween is by far, and away, my favorite holiday. It’s not just the candy either.  There’s just something about this time of year.  I love the spookyness of it, the sillyness of it.  I love the specials on the TV, i love the commercials that start, oh, sometime in August. :-) I love how religious folk get all bent outta shape cause it’s “the devils holiday.” Just the other day I had a woman tell me that she doesn’t celebrate Halloween cause It’s the Devils Holiday and that she doesn’t believe in that. I told her that I didn’t believe in the Devil either and that’s why I celebrate it. She totally didn’t appreciate that! ;-) This song that I’ve posted and shared with you today is one from a CD that I got the other day for the show.  I’ve decided not to use the song in the show - but there are loads like it in the show! It’s Mannheim Steamroller doing Superstition by Stevie Wonder.  I love Mannheim Steamroller, ive been listening to them since I was a kid.  And you know how much I love covers so this is just a perfect combo, ya know.  I hope that you like this song, and maybe it will intice you to tune in on Saturday.  I’ve tired to find music that maybe not everyone will have on their shows at this time, but you can’t have a Halloween playlist without Thriller, Monster Mash, and The Purple People Eater so those are all there!  Don’t forget - I broadcast the show live in ThatStation Radio Live at 9am EST (world clock) on Saturday! There’s a chat room that you can come into, I’ll be there, as will loads of other listeners.  (Loads may be an exaggeration.) A good time is usually had by all, and the music is usually pretty good too!
