one song, four vidoes

If you know me, you should know that I’m a BIG fan of covers. I guess it’s that Love variations on a theme.  I am a creature of habit by definition, and that’s what inspired todays song choice. I sort of randomly picked the Cat Stevens song - The First Cut Is The Deepest, cause I know the song has been covered several times. I have the original in my collection and I went to the YT and found four covers.  2 women and 2 men.  First up, listen to the track “The First Cut Is The Deepest” as done by Cat Stevens. His is the original. The First Cut Is the Deepest” is a 1967 song written and sung by Cat Stevens. It has become a hit single for four different artists: P.P. Arnold (1967), Keith Hampshire (1973), Rod Stewart (1977), and Sheryl Crow (2003), with the last two being the most widely known. (Dang, I counted like 30 something covers on that Wiki!) As an added bonus, treat, thing ah mm bob - four you tube videos : “The First Cut Is The Deepest” by Sheryl Crow “The First Cut Is The Deepest” by James Morrison, and “The First Cut Is The Deepest” by Linda Ronstadt!  And as a super special treat, one that hopefully you’ve give at least a chance, a YT video of an nonPro doing the track. A YT user by the name of Lillyanne3579. I hope you enjoy these 5 songs today! :-) Well, these 5 versions of the SAME song! :-)

weird al tuesday

So, you might not know this about me, but one of my favorite artists, of all time, is Weird Al.  He’s just great! He does three kinds of songs. 1) he does parodies of songs - like Girls Just Wanna Have Lunch & White and Nerdy.  Where he takes the original melody and writes new words.  2) Polka Medlys - like Bohemian Polka & Polka Your Eyes Out & Polkas on 45 where he makes one song out of many contemporary songs and puts them all in a polka medly format!  Wicked stuff!  Lastly, and more to the point, is 3) original works. He’s done a quite a few of these actually. Dare To Be Stupid, I’ll be Mellow When I’m Dead, Don’t Wear Those Shoes, & One More Minute.  That’s the song I’m sharing today for the Tuesday Tuneage.  It’s Weird Al’s - One More Minute. It’s from his DARE TO BE STUPID album that was released in 1985.  I remember listening to this over & over on my walkman! Dancing around, slowly, of course.  Doing a sort little sort of doowop dance.  It’s a good one. The imagery is pretty keen too. ;-) And I burned down the malt shop where we used to go / Just because it reminds me of you (dippity dippity doo) I put the video in the extended, along with a couple of vids for the other songs! ;-) I hope you enjoy this Tuesday Tuneage! :-) Happy Tuesday! :-)

oh, and p.s. if you haven’t already, check out Colin’s Monday Tunez! ;-)

Saturdays

I had a bit of a trouble trying to decide what song to post today. First - I thought I’ll post Abba - Waterloo. Last night I got a request for a youTube video of me singing that song in my Car Chipmunk Karaoke!  Then I remembered that cd was in the car. Then I thought, oh - no, I’ll post something from The Rocky Horror Picture Show.  I’m working on a contest, where I Could win a theme song for my channel, and I’ve picked (randomly, you’ll see) to imitate a track from the soundtrack to the RHPS! Yes! Seriosuly!? I got it on film. I do no make this up! :-) So, I was going with that, when I decided that ripping a cd would be too hard.  So I decided to Share a song called Saturdays.  It’s by a chick called Holly Brook.  I got the track from iTunes.  If you like the track, you should too! :-) I love this slow litte guitar driven ditty. Found it looking for songs with the word Saturday in them for my new show intro! :-)

my brain in cars, cars in my brain

{right click, save as} Since I got my digital camera on Friday I’ve sort of become, not obsessed, but at least very interested in doing video in my car.  I’ve done three four so far.  My mother doesn’t like it - my husband doesn’t like it. But I LOVE it.  (See this short video I did yesterday as for more of my justifications for my “unsafe” behavior.) So, in that vein, I’ve had music on the brain. I thought what better song to share this week, than Stick Shifts & Safety Belts by Cake. It’s one of my favorite songs anyway - plus - I totally drive a stick shift & I always wear my seat belt! :-) This song is really fun to drive to.  Check it out and see if I’m not right! ;-) I hope you enjoy this Tuesday Tuneage - and BUCKLE UP and do the snuggling at the drive in! :-)

america the beautiful

Today I want to remember what is wonderful and beautiful about this country. I want to remember what makes this country strong and amazing and truly the greatest country in the world.  I want to focus on the positives, and only think about the love the citizens of this country can show each other in times of need and times of great sorrow. I want to remember how we can come together and make a difference. I want to remember the beauty.  Because of that, I’ve chosen to share with you today, on this most pivotal of anniversaries, America the Beautiful as done by Mannheim Steamroller & C.W. McCall.  There were many versions to choose from, and I put 6 more in the extended entry via video entries.  I’ve only included the first verse of the song, but you can see the other 7 here on this website. I have memories of singing this song, when I was a kid, to entertain myself.  During the days I would hang out with my mom at her work and since it was just the 2 of us in the whole place, I would go upstairs and sing and dance and keep busy all day.  One of the songs that I could sing without any music was this one. I knew all the words and and I would sing it as big as adult voice as I could manage.  I love this song and I hope that you enjoy this particular version, or at least one of the videos.

I wish you LOVE LOVE LOVE today!

America the Beautiful Words by Katharine Lee Bates, Melody by Samuel Ward

O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

Added - the second and third verses for this particular version of the song.

O beautiful for heroes proved
In liberating strife.
Who more than self their country loved
And mercy more than life!
America! America!
May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness
And every gain divine!

O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

it’s snack time

{right click, save as, download}
The song for today’s Tuesday Tuneage is “I eat Cannibals” by the band Total Coleo. I am not sure when I first heard this song, but considering it was released in 1982, when I was just 4, it’s not surprising.  I’ve always liked this little quirky number, and today, when I went to You Tube to find the video, I saw two versions of the song done in video that I’d never seen before.  Total 80’s videos too. Cheesy as all Cheese!

The song was originally done by Total Coleo.  Toto Coelo (renamed Total Coelo in the U.S.) was a 1980s British new wave vocal group, masterminded by producer Barry Blue, and comprising of the singers Anita Mahadervan, Lacey Bond, Lindsey Danvers, Ros Holness (daughter of TV host Bob Holness) and Sheen Doran.  The group’s name is Latin and means “completely”, “entirely” or “utterly”. Of the name, Sheen Doran said, “It has a number of meanings, such as ‘heart and soul’, ‘root and branch’ and ‘totally different’. It seemed to describe what we were. Plus, it’s strange-sounding and hard to pronounce, so it sticks in your mind.” The group was renamed Total Coelo in the United States to avoid confusion with the American group, Toto.{source - Toto Coleo Wiki}

old school tuneage

{right click, save as} This is some seriously old school tuneage. It’s a song called “Rollerskate” by a band called “Call & Response.” In junior high I used to go rollerskating every Friday and Saturday night, as the parental units allowed and drove.  We’d even go on Sunday afternoons for the family skate. I loved roller skating.  I wouldn’t do the speed skate, but I would go backwards to skate during the couples skate. I think they called us “skate rats.” Were you ever a “skate rat?” I hope you enjoy this Tuesday Tuneage.

stole the idea from colin, stole the song from a colin

right click, save as {download} This is the second week in a row that I’ve done this. This being Tuesday Tuneage.  Today I am posting the song “Overkill” by Colin Hay from the Scrubs soundtrack. I don’t watch that show, usually, but Zack Braff and I certainly seem to have similar taste in music. I loved the soundtrack he put together for Garden State, it was just brilliant.  I remember seeing this particular episode of Scrubs, mostly because I think I tuned in because I am a big Man at Work fan. It’s also fitting because it’s a little after 2am now as I’m posting this, and I really can’t get to sleep. Enjoy the Aug 21st Tuesday Tuneage.  (Heh, now that I’ve finished this whole thing I realize I should have picked a song about or for my dad. It’s his birthday today.  Today he turns 58! I love you Papa!).

first of the tuesday tuneage

I stole this idea from Colin, and I’m posting it REALLY late, but next week it will be earlier.  This week I’ve decided to share the song Satellite by Dave Matthews Band. I’ve always loved the idea of this love song. It reminds me of high school, and weirdly, a good memory surrounding a boy that broke my heart. Hope you enjoy the Tuesday Tuneage.

Sorry you missed it. but I can’t leave the files up forever.
